Home for the winter

We are settled in for three months until April 7, and this year we have a different lot in Rancho California Resort. Rancho is an ownership RV resort with about 600 lots, located in the high desert in Aguanga (pronounced "Awanga"), 20 minutes east of the city of Temecula. The scenery surrounding the resort is spectacular, with views of the mountains from everywhere in the resort. Each lot is individually owned, and many of the lots have been improved with "buildouts", making each lot somewhat unique.

The buildouts are outdoor living areas with amenities like kitchens, living areas, bar, and laundry facilities. Some of the lots are available for monthly rental through a real estate business located in the resort, Fairway Associates, which administers the logistics of the rental. We have dealt with Fairway for five years, and they are a pleasure to do business with.

Our lot this year has a nice buildout, and it gives us extra living space under a roof. The rental cost is quite reasonable, especially when compared to RV lot rentals in Florida, which is the usual destination for people from the eastern part of the US and Canada.

We are within a one hour drive of the SoCal coast, and places like San Clemente, Oceanside, Carlsbad and San Diego are easily accessible, and the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs) is one hour away in the other direction.

Rancho is a well-managed resort, with administrative functions handled by a local Homeowners Association, with elected officials. There are many full time residents who live here year round, and they are generally very friendly and welcoming to renters. There is 24 hour security provided by a contracted security company, with a controlled access gate. For the first couple of years we were here, there was a small store and a restaurant within the resort, which unfortunately is no longer open. We keep hoping every year that the restaurant will reopen.

We are at the beginning of our three month stay, and are looking forward to another great winter here at Rancho, before we begin out month-long journey back across the country to Cedarwood, our summer home.

Here are a few pictures of our site this year.
