We left Yuma at 9:30 on Saturday morning, and started east along I-8, destination Benson, AZ, a distance of 280 miles.
This drive along I-8 is very relaxing, as it passes through the Sonoran Desert, and there are no towns until Casa Grande, except for the small settlement of Gila Bend. Temperatures were over 90F (32C) during this drive. The Navigator took a turn at driving, giving The Driver a welcome break.
We stopped at a rest area in the desert, and one could see for probably 50 miles in any direction.
We reached Benson at around 2:30, and checked into Benson I-10 RV Park, where we have stayed several times. It is a quiet Passport America location for $20 per night, with huge level spots and good utilities. We will stay here for two nights, and visit Tombstone on Sunday. I will publish a post about Tombstone soon. We will take advantage of the disconnected truck, and fuel up with about 75 gallons of diesel at $2.40 per gallon. Love these low diesel prices! They will get even lower as we go through Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
