Rural Louisiana

We are presently in a small park in Louisiana called Quiet Oaks RV Park.
It is $16 per night Passport America rate. It is okay for an overnight stop, appears to be nice and quiet, as the name implies. Unfortunately, it is raining steadily, although the temperature is a humid 75F.

We went through Houston at 8:30 this morning (Sunday), and the traffic was already starting to build, although it was moving well. We took I-10 right through the downtown core and out the other side.

We crossed the state line from Texas into Louisiana at Mile Marker 880 on I-10. This is actually the longest stretch of Interstate in the country, which is within a single state. Mile Marker 0 is at Anthony, TX near the NM state line, and Mile Marker 880 is at Orange, TX. We have gone from hot, dry desert, over the Continental Divide plateau, through the High Plains, to warm, humid Gulf Coast weather, all within one state. It illustrates how huge Texas really is.

Blue circle shows our current location. It's a long way from Aguanga!

Tomorrow we will leave at around 10 am for a short 175 mile drive to Robert, LA, where we will stay for one night at a Yogi Bear Resort (at Passport America rate, of course). Then on to New Orleans!

  1. I believe california is 780 miles...not near as big as Texas because it is long and skinny.. Just a few days out from New Orleans, I can hardly wait. You know what I liked, the raindrops, the green of the trees and the grass... I know ..at the expense of ....dreaded humidity. Have yet to experience that there.... Just once on the Cook Islands, at a fuel stop on our way to New Zealand.... I could not breath the air felt so hot and heavy.

  2. It is very hot and humid here, but very green as well. I DO miss the dry desert air of California and Arizona, but we have a whole summer of humidity ahead of us, so we will get accustomed to it all over again.
